Can vegetarians rely on chlorella for vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 needs particular attention when you eat little or no animal food. Fortified foods and B12 supplements can provide a reliable source. Researchers have studied some chlorella products, but those results do not establish how much usable B12 a serving of Vplus supplies.

Where can vegetarians get B12?
Animal foods such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy contain vitamin B12 without fortification. If you avoid these foods, you need a reliable alternative, usually B12-fortified foods or a B12 supplement. A varied plant-based diet still needs a deliberate B12 source.
Check that the food or supplement declares B12 and its amount. A green colour, an algae ingredient or a “natural” claim does not establish that it supplies usable B12.

What has chlorella research found?
A small 2015 study followed 17 vegetarian and vegan adults taking 9 g of Chlorella pyrenoidosa daily for about 60 days. A marker used to assess B12 status improved on average. There was no placebo group, and the study did not test Vplus.
Another analysis identified methylcobalamin in a Chlorella vulgaris sample. That finding applies to the material analysed. It does not establish the B12 form or amount in every chlorella species, batch or blend.
Can Vplus replace a B12 supplement?
Do not rely on Vplus as your sole B12 source or use it to replace prescribed treatment. One sachet contains 4 g of tablets made from a mixture of ingredients, which is different from the chlorella used in the study.
If you are unsure whether your diet supplies enough B12, discuss fortified foods, supplements and any need for testing with a doctor or dietitian. Bring your current packs so they can check the declared amounts.
