How to ask about supplement batch testing

A batch number links a pack to a production record. It is useful when asking about a product, checking a report or reporting a concern. Keep the packaging or take a clear photo of the printed number and date.

A cultivation description answers where and how an ingredient was grown. A laboratory report answers what was measured in an identified sample. Neither replaces the other.

A certificate of analysis, or CoA, identifies a sample and reports specified tests. Check the product or sample name, batch reference, report date and laboratory, then read the test names, units, methods and results.

If a report provides a limit, compare the result with that stated limit using the same units. A result reported as below a detection or quantification limit is different from a measured zero.

The report covers the tests and sample it identifies. It cannot establish that the laboratory tested for every possible contaminant, or that an unrelated batch has the same results.

GMP means Good Manufacturing Practice. It concerns how production is organised and controlled, including procedures, hygiene and records. The supporting documentation should name the standard and the facility or activity it covers.

A GMP statement is not the result of a laboratory test on your pack. If a seller uses the term, ask what documentation supports it and which facility and activities it covers.
